Workshops

Your Journey to Quilting Mastery Begins Here!

The Annapolis Quilt Guild offers several workshops each year, covering a variety of techniques and projects. We strive to bring in widely recognized instructors while keeping the cost to attend affordable. Details on class fees, supplies and any pre-class preparation are noted in each workshop description.

Workshops are generally held on the first Monday of the month, with the workshop presenter giving a related lecture at that evening’s guild meeting. Workshops may be held in-person, at the Severna Park Community Center, or via zoom.

Workshops are open to non-Guild members for an additional fee, as noted in the description for each workshop.

Registration is available online via “Register Online Now” link for each workshop. If the registration link is not available it means the workshop is full; please send an email to [email protected] if you wish to be placed on a waiting list. Payment may be made via credit card at the time of online registration (preferred), by mailing a check or by bringing a check or cash to a guild meeting. Your place in the class is not confirmed until payment is received.

“Shimmering Triangles”

Monday, November 9, 2026
9am-4pm, in-person

Make this gorgeous quilt that gives the effect of water rippling in a stream.  It is a perfect pattern to showcase beautiful fabric, especially large scale prints.  You will achieve the shimmer by applying easy to understand color and value concepts that you can also use to enhance all your future quilts!  This quilt looks complicated, but is actually quite easy to construct.  You will learn a quick piecing method for half-square triangles with perfect points.  The class will use Jenny Bowker’s pattern with an instructor endorsed by Jenny herself. By the end of class, you should have a design layout for your fabrics, completed several blocks, and understand how to complete your quilt on your own.

Pattern required $18; purchase directly from the instructor.

“STRATA”

Monday, January 25, 2027 & Monday, February 1, 2027
9:30am-12:30pm each day, zoom

Two part class! Part 1 will be on Monday, January 25 from 9:30am-12:30pm.  Part 2 will take place on Monday, February 1 from 9:30 am – 12:30 noon. Your registration includes both sessions.

In class, Rachel will guide the students through curved piecing of coordinated hand-dyed and commercial fabrics for the background.  Easy quilting designs will be introduced.  Organza circles will be stitched to the surface with single or double needle applique.  Yarns will be couched to the surface for movement and definition.  A limited amount of fabrics, yarn, thread and silk organza will be available for purchase in advance from the instructor.  A demo of screen printing with paint on the surface of the quilt will also be offered.

Rachel will teach an introduction to this piecing technique originally developed by Native Americans. Students will be creating units that are cut from long strips, and then sewn together and remade in a Seminole pattern. The strips can be very colorful and are suitable to be used in a small quilt, wall hanging, or as an accent to brighten up a garment.

“Apparrottly It’s a Party”

Monday, April 5, 2027
9:30am-4pm, in-person

During this class we will cover three (3) different methods for sewing curves so that each student can discover the method that works best for them. We will also be sewing a block that has a curve within the curve!  By the end of this class, students should complete one (1) flower block, which makes for a great pillow or wall hanging. The students will have the skills and confidence to then make the bird blocks to complete the quilt.  Students will need to precut their fabric before the class.

This class uses my ‘Apparrottly It’s A Party’ pattern. Each student will be required to purchase a pattern for the class. A discount code will be provided when booking the class for the PDF version of the pattern.
