AQG Events
The Annapolis Quilt Guild offers its members special events throughout the year. These events include Sit & Sews during the summer months, a holiday party in December, a Fabric Frenzy bus trip (usually in March) and an end-of-year celebration in June. Please see below for more information. The “Workshops” page is where you will find out about monthly speakers and workshops.
September through May – Challenge Quilts
The 2025-2026 Quilt Challenge: Inspired by Joy
This year’s challenge will be one rooted in self-reflection. With a maximum size of 24″ by 24″, and a color palette inspired by your birthstone, we challenge you to think about the word ‘JOY’ and its meaning to you.
- Some months have multiple stones to choose from, and the following list may be used for your convenience. Other colors are allowed, but overall, the piece should lean heavily on the color(s) of your birth month’s associated stones(s).
- There will be no minimum size, only a maximum quilt size of 24″ by 24″.
- The subject of JOY in this challenge is extremely flexible. Does the beach bring you JOY? Reflect on that. Does English Paper Piecing bring you JOY? Use that method. The goal is to make this process a little lighter, and of course, spark some JOY and creativity.
| January-garnet | July-ruby, onyx |
| February-amethyst, jasper | August-peridot, spinel, sardonyx |
| March-aquamarine, bloodstone | September-sapphire |
| April-diamond | October-pink tourmaline, opal |
| May-emerald, agate | November-topaz, citrine |
| June-alexandrite, pear, moonstone | December-tanzanite, blue topaz, turquoise, zircon |
Fall – Children’s Holiday Quilt Drive
Once again during this upcoming festive season, we will contribute to the Holiday Sharing Program via the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services Community Initiatives and Programs. They serve over 2,000 families and the elderly during the holidays by providing a Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinner along with Holiday gifts for children 15 years old and younger.
- Good sizes are approximately 40” x 50” for younger kids and 50” x 60” for older children. Up to twin size quilts are acceptable.
- Quilts are preferred , but other comfortable coverings, such as fleece blankets, are also welcome.
- The quilts will be collected at the December meeting. Our goal is to have at least 120 quilts.
- Please wash the quilt prior to donation; we recommend using color catchers as well.
Thanks to the generous donations of time and fabric from several members, we will have pre-cut quilt top kits available at the monthly meetings beginning in September. You will need to provide the batting, backing, binding and, of course, construction. These kits alone will not be enough to meet the goal, so head for your stash and pull some fun, colorful fabric. We have several simple patterns available or you can check out Quilts for Kids Free Patterns.
December – Holiday Party
This takes place during our regular meeting time in December and is always jam-packed with fun activities! Past year’s activities have included:
- Collection of donated children’s quilts
- Fat quarter exchange
- Tree block lottery
- Ugly sweater contest
- Quilters’ BINGO
- Slideshow presentation by our historian, Hilke Hoefer, on 40 years of the Annapolis Quilt Guild.
- Show & Tell
We will serve light refreshments and drinks. Feel free to bring homemade desserts or snacks to add to the table.
February – Food Drive for the Light House Shelter
We will collect non-perishable food for The Light House Shelter in Annapolis at the February Meeting. You can find the list of preferred items at https://annapolislighthouse.org/get-involved/needs/. While you are there, look around the website to learn about the critical work done but The Light House Shelter and other ways you can help. The Light House will send us a list of the most urgently needed items based on current needs and we will post those items here.
Spring – Fabric Frenzy Bus Trip
Saturday April 11
Prepare yourself for a day trip to Lancaster area quilt shops!
Exact Times & shops are still being perfected, but expect an All-Day Event.
Bottled water will be provided, but please bring your own snacks and bagged lunch. One of the mid-day shops is by several food establishments, so if you would prefer to dine out you can, (it may cut into your shopping time though!!)
The fee for this event is $60. Registration info is in the Piecemaker Newsletter.
June – End of Year Celebration
Date & location TBD!
Another year has gone by and it’s time to celebrate. Date and location TBD. The guild will provide some sweet treats, fresh fruit and drinks, as well as paper products and utensils.
Summer – Sit & Sews
Hope to see you at our informal summer gatherings! These are generally held from 6-9pm on the first Monday of July and August. The location is the same as our regular meetings: St. Philips Episcopal Church, 730 Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Bring your sewing projects and hang out with other guild members. Show & Tell is also welcome during these months.
